India have ended the 13 year drought and put their hands on their second ICC world T20 trophy 2024 in some style. The men in blues defeated a spirited south African team by 7 runs in a match that seems to be in proteas’s clutch during the end overs. Given this victory, bcci has rewarded a whopping 125 crore prize to the Indian men cricket team.
The win didn’t come easily for the men in blues and they really have to toil hard most of the time. India didn’t get to a amazing start and lost the early wickets of captain Rohit Sharma, Pant and Surya kumar Yadav within a span of 5 overs. Still, as a result of some sensational display of batting from King Kohli and Axar patel, the team posted a healthy target of 16 runs for the South African men cricket team.
Jasprit bumrah, just like every other time, took the charge and provided the first breakthrough for the Indian men’s cricket team. Following his lead, even Arshdeep singh secured the much needed wicket of SA captain Aiden Markram.
Match got really nervy at the end with Miller and Klaaasen going full throttle
Tristian Stubs and David miller took their team to a safe spot from there. Yet, with the former’s wicket, Axar patel got the much needed breakthrough for Team India. While team India though they had the game in their hand, Henreich Klaasen simply blasted Indian bowlers in every part of the ground. With him and miller on crease, the game seems like out of India’s clutch. This is where Hardik Pandya came with his magical spell and scalped Klaasen with a brilliant off cutter.
It was all down to bumrah and Arshedeep who held their nerves and didn’t let South African team escape the pressure. With 16 runs needed from the final over, Pandya again provided the much needed wicket of Miller in association with a ‘ catch of the tournament’ from Surya kumar yadav. Pandya didn’t let the rest of the batters breathe and Indian won the game by 7 runs. Post match, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja and Rohit Sharma announced their retirement from the T20Is.
