Pakistani Players may witness a significant salary cut given dismal T20 world cup performance

Nothing seems like going good for the Pakistan men’s cricket team for the ICC T20 world cup 2024. In the wake of Pakistan’s underwhelming performance in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is contemplating a review of player central contracts. According to reports, this could result in a significant cut in the salaries of Pakistan men’s cricket team. We must say that the team was eliminated early in the tournament after losing their opening two games to the USA and India, and they were unable to advance past the group stage.

The players’ contracts and salaries may be reassessed if PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi takes a strong stance against the team’s subpar play, a source close to the PCB told a renowned online news outlet. Naqvi has received advice from a few board members and former players to examine the central contracts that were given out when Zaka Ashraf was the previous chairman.

Players must stay ready for harsh consequences: PCB Source

The source stated that although the board has not yet made a decision, the players may face harsh consequences. Talks have been held with the chairman in light of the fact that Zaka Ashraf raised player salaries and suggested giving them a share of PCB’s profits the previous year. Mohsin Naqvi had declared prior to the T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies that every player would get a bonus of $100,000 if the team won the competition.

In addition, in response to the team’s subpar play, the PCB will more strictly enforce its two NOC (No Objection Certificate) policy for T20 leagues. According to the source, every player with a domestic or central contract has been made aware that the NOC rules are universal and that the board has the authority to deny any player’s request for a NOC.
