According to a few reports, Gautam Gambhir is all set to join the India T20 world cup squad as the new head coach. After taking Kolkata knight riders to their third IPL title, Gambhir is approached by the BCCI for the vacant India cricket team coach position.
The coaching role of the Indian cricket team will certainly come as a different challenge for Gautam Gambhir. While he has served as a mentor of the KKR team and even LSG in the IPL, this role will have its own responsibilities and rewards.
We must mention here that the contract of Rahul Dravid expired last year as the coach of the Indian cricket team. So, the BCCI invited applications recently for the same role. It was also rumored that few of the former Australian cricketers like Ponting, Langer and others were approached by BCCi. However, BCCI secretary Jay Shah refuted such claims.
On the other side, names like Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag and even Chandrakant pandit are also in discussion for the same role. In a recent interview, Harbhajan Singh also expressed his interest in the coaching role. That said, the T20 world cup 2024 is around the corner and it would be interesting to see how BCCi go ahead with this selection process.
