IPL 2023 is set to take off on 30th March with a juicy clash between past year’s champions Gujarat Giants and three times champions Chennai super kings. That said, BCCI has introduced a few new rules in the IPL 2023 that may offer a level playing field to everyone.
While these IPL 2023 new rules may or may not benefit the teams, they would surely bring some much-awaited excitement to the cricket fans. Having that said, let’s take a brief look at these new IPL 2023 rules.
IPL 2023 New Rule #1: The Impact Player
The introduction of an impact player will provide a much-needed edge to every team given the playing conditions during IPL 2023. According to the Impact Player rule, every team is allowed to name 4 players in their existing 15-man IPL squad before the match.
Besides, these players can be substituted anytime by the 14th over of that particular innings. Moreover, only an Indian player can become the IPL Impact Player in case the team is playing with 4 overseas players in the IPL 2023 match. Moreover, the player can be an IPL overseas player in case only 3 overseas players are playing the match.
On the other hand, the player replaced by the IPL 2023 impact player cannot take any further part in the match.
IPL 2023 New Rule #2: IPL 2023 teams to name their playing XI after Toss
According to this new IPL 2023 rule, teams can announce their playing XI after the toss. That way, they can plan their strategies and squad according to the playing conditions and toss situation. For example, the match is been played at Wankhede stadium in Mumbai at night. Hence, given the past history of this ground supporting the chasing team, the team losing the toss can bring in an extra bowler.
Besides, it will help the IPL 2023 teams to better manage their players and their squad in case there is an injury scare in the team.
IPL 2023 New Rule #3: Unfair Movement by Wicketkeeper or fielder may attract penalty runs
In another IPL 2023 rule change, any unfair movement by the opposition fielder or wicketkeeper may attract 5 penalty runs or even a dead ball. Hence, the batters will not be deceived and can easily predict the movement of the ball in the field.
Earlier, there have been numerous instances in International cricket where the wicketkeepers have deceived the batters with unfair movements on the field. So, we can say that this new IPL rule 2023 will bring a stop to all such unfair acts.
IPL 2023 New Rule #4: Fielding restrictions for over completion
According to this new IPL 2023 rule, the fielding team will only be able to keep their 4 fielders outside the 30-yard circle in case they have been unable to finish the over within the stipulated time. This kind of rule was earlier been introduced in BBL in Australia where the team has to cut down on fielders during the last over given their inability to finish the 20-over quota on time.
Bottom line
IPL 2023 rule change may or may not come beneficial for the IPL teams. Yet, it would surely boost the excitement and thrill during the game to new levels.
