USA has done the unthinkable of the world cricket riding on the magnificent performance of their captain Monank Patel. They have just beaten Pakistan, the finalists of last t2O world cup, in a super over thriller. With this win, USA ensured the biggest upset in the ICC T20 world cup 2024. No one gave them a chance against a top rated team like Pakistan while they entered into this game as an associated nation.
While many rated them high as they defeated Bangladesh in a recently concluded t20 home series, no one counted them as a winner for this match. Also, many Indian fans are hailing USA’s performance in their USA vs Pak match at Grand Prairie ground.
After winning the toss, USA decided to bowl first. Also the way Pakistan team were playing initially, the pitch seem like a tricky one. Yet, some firecrackers from Shadab in the middle and Shaheen afridi at the end ensured that Pakistan reached to a respectable total of 159 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.
In reply, USA played sensibly and didn’t lose a wicket until the 5th over. Even after that, captain Monank patel developed a good partnership of 50+ runs with the Andries Gous. The match was going USA way when Haris rouf rattled the stumps of Gous with 104 on the scorecard.
It all went tipsy turvy until the last over when Jones slammed some crucial runs. Yet it was Nitish kumar who scored a 4 off the last ball to take the match to a super over. Talking of the super over, Mohammed Amir came to bowl it for the men in green. Still, given some pathetic line and length from Amir, made worse with some street-standard fielding, USA scored 18 runs.
It all seemed gloomy for the Pakistani batter as Sourabh netravalkar came to bowl the ultimate over from USA side. While he did give a boundary of the second ball, he didn’t let the shackles get off the Pakistani players.
