RCB’s match against LSG has brought some old nightmares for the team in red and gold. Even while playing on their home ground, the team has proved chokers once again while going down by 1 wicket in the hands of Lucknow super giants in an edge of the seat thriller match on Monday night. With this loss, they are now languishing at the bottom four of the IPL 2023 points table.
If you are an RCB fan, you must be wondering all these years- what is stopping RCB from winning the IPL title ? Well, if we walk through the past 16 years of IPL history, there are few things that have always troubled the team from Bangalore.
Analysing reasons why RCB may go trophy-less even in IPL 2023
No real local talent in their lineup
For years now, RCB has been over reliant on names like Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle and AB devilliers. That said, the team lacks most of the local flavor in their key matches during IPL. While other teams have produced some of the best young Indian cricketing talent, RCB doesn’t have much to show up in this regards.
On the other side, they have let go of some key local names like KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Devdutt padikkal and so on. So, even while they have got all the support from the Bengaluru crowd, they are missing out big time on a local talent.
Even if we talk about the Indian players, they only got Virat Kohli, Mohammed Siraj and Dinesh Karthik at their behest. So, this blind trust on most of their overseas players is really not working in their favor.

Poor Management
If there’s one team that hasn’t learnt from their past mistakes, it has to be RCB. Time and again, RCB’s team management has let go of players that have served them well in every aspect. Chris Gayle, Shane Watson, Marcus Stoinis and Robin Uthappa are few of the big names from the same list.
All these players have served RCB for some good time, yet in the following years, the RCB management have shown them doors for one reason or another. Well, if you look at RCB matches in the past years, most of these players have performed amazingly against their former team.
While Gayle proved his worth globally, Shane Watson has won CSK IPL 2021 single handedly. Moreover KL Rahul and Marcus Stoinis have just jolted RCB with a key win in last night’s thriller.
Below Par Bowling attack
Bangalore’s bowling attack has historically been their weak point. Still, last year, they did show some positive signs with the inclusion of Josh Hazelwood in their bowling line up. Moreover, the only bowler who has consistently performed well over the years for RCB is Yuzvendra Chahal.
Besides, Bangalore’s team is frequently seen playing without all five of its specialist bowlers. Due to the bowlers’ inability to contain over 75 runs in the final four over, RCB lost a game to KKR last year. Moreover, the pace attack of the RCB desperately needed a dedicated death bowler, but it frequently went without.
Even now, they have Bracewell, Hasaranga, Harshal patel, Siraj, Akashdeep and Karn Sharma in their bowling line up. Besides, Maxwelll, Shahbaz ahmed and Mahipal Lomror can also roll their arms as a part timer. That said, they still lack those fighting spirit of a dedicated death over bowler.
Bad luck
Yes, we can count this as the 4th crucial factor behind RCB’s dismal performances over the years. Just like South Africa in International cricket, RCB has proved to be the victim of bad luck time and again. Every time they come up with the best team on papers, they didn’t been able to show up the same performance on the field.
On the other side, RCB has entered the Playoffs 8 times in the past 16 editions. Also, they have entered the IPL finals thrice( 2009, 2011 and 2016). Still, they have never been able to go past those final stages. This truly shows how bad their luck has been over the past editions of IPL.
Will RCB win IPL 2023?
Well, RCB got a team to beat in the IPL 2023. With the likes of Faf Du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, Virat Kohli, Dinesh Karthik and other big names, everyone is putting big hopes on them. Still, whether it is going to be any different or the same old story for RCB, is yet to be seen. They still have a long way to go in IPL 2023 and we hope that their dry run for a Maiden IPL Trophy ends this time around.
