Women IPL is all set it kickoff on March 4th with the first match going to be played between the Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians. In the meanwhile, Tata has won the Title rights of the inaugural Women IPL tournament this year.
Although the key details of the same deal haven’t been disclosed by the officials, it is confirmed that that the famous Indian brand has bagged these rights for the next five years. Earlier last year, Tata has replaced Chinese Mobile manufacturing firm Vivo as the title sponsor for Men’s IPL 2023.
So, technically, they now hold the title sponsorship for both IPL and WPL. “I am delighted to announce the #TataGroup as the title sponsor of the inaugural #WPL. With their support, we’re confident that we can take women’s cricket to the next level,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah tweeted.
We must note here that the media rights sale of Women IPL had brought a mammoth amount of INR 951 crore to BCCI and the five franchisees have further went for sale for in total 4700 crore. On the other side, RCB bags Indian opener Smriti Mandhana at At 3.4 crore, making her the most expensive players in the Women IPL auction 2023.
Even though an official confirmation is still awaited, she is going to lead the RCB women’s team in the WPL 2023.
UP Warriorz appoints Alyssa Healy as their captain for WPL 2023
Australia’s Alyssa Healy, wife of famous Aussie speedster Mitchell Starc, has been named the captain of the UP Warriorz for the Women’s Premier League in 2023.
Interestingly, the UP Warriorz were the second team to reveal the name of their captain for the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023. Beside taking care of the captaincy role, we may find Alyssa Healy taking on the gloves for this famous WPL team.
The franchise owned by Capri Global Holdings Private Limited purchased Healy at the Women IPL auction for Rs 70 lakh few weeks back. Moreover, a total of six foreign players, along with the Australian wicketkeeper Healy, were acquired by the UP Warriorz, one of the five teams in the WPL, during the WPL Player Auctions held in Mumbai on February 13.
We must mention here that the Aussie keeper is going full throttle in the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 with 146 runs in 3 matches, trailing only Smriti Mandhana of India and Nat-Sciver Brunt of England. She is currently reeling with an injury but hopeful to recover on time to face India in the semifinal game on Thursday (February 23).
Healy, one of the most respected figures in sports, is an extremely skilled and seasoned player. He has played 139 T20I matches for Australia and has amassed close to 2,500 runs, one century, and 14 fifty-sevens.
